About Us

Companies House is an Executive Agency of The Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform.

The Minister responsible for Companies House is Ian Pearson MP, Minister of State for Science and Innovation. The agency also has Trading Fund status which allows the agency to directly manage its own finances.

As Accounting Officer for the organisation, the Chief Executive is ultimately responsible to Ministers for the day to day running of the agency.

Companies House has an Executive Board and a Steering Board made up of senior BERR personnel and independent members from the private sector and supported by Companies House Directors. The Steering Board meets quarterly to provide advice on the governance of the agency, in particular its corporate plan, targets and performance. Its composition reflects our aim of drawing on best practice from the public and private sectors. The Audit Committee (PDF 24KB) also reports to the Steering Board on a timely basis.

Executive Board – meet on a monthly basis and their purpose is to set the direction for Companies House, maintain overall stewardship and governance, and ensure our organisational capacity to deliver for our customers.

Agency Business Board – also meet on a monthly basis and report to the Executive Board at their monthly meeting.  Members monitor the performance of the Agency, tracking performance against targets and progress against deliverables, highlighting any risks, issues, opportunities and achievements.
